As a business, social media is the most powerful platform today for marketing your products and services. Having a social media presence is crucial for all kinds of businesses. An important question asked by businesses is how often should they post on social media? When you want to sell products and services, shouldn't you be posting as much as possible?

Posting as much as possible does not mean that you will reach as many people as possible. In fact, this approach is counterproductive. For starters, your workload on social media is high. Your audience will also get annoyed when they see only your posts flooding their feed. This is a quick way to get a lot of unfollowers. On the other hand, if you post once in a long while, your audience will quickly forget about you.

The ideal posting frequency is about achieving the right balance -

  • Facebook - Once per day to 5-7 times a week. Facebook also allows you to post website links or links to blog posts which you may also post along with your regular posts.

  • Instagram - Once per day to 5-7 times a week. When your business is new on Instagram, you definitely want to be posting at least once a day to gain an audience and increase your reach.

  • LinkedIn - 5 times a week or 20 times a month. The key here is to be active during the working days of the week.

  • Twitter - A minimum of 3-5 tweets a day. With a limited number of characters per tweet and the option to retweet others, Twitter allows you to be more liberal with the number of posts per day.

  • Pinterest - 10 to 20 pins a day. You can even go up to 30 pins a day. Aim for a ratio of 80:20 with your pins i.e. 20% of the pins can be of your content while 80% of the pins should be of content that belongs to others.

  • TikTok - Businesses are experimenting with TikTok as the audience on TikTok continues to rise in number. With TikTok, the algorithm works differently and pushes content from different creators to non-followers as well. This allows you to post more often. The more you post, the more you can grow on this platform as it is still relatively new and the algorithm will work in your favor.
